ABOUT THE AUTHOR
In 2019, I treated myself to a Writer Within Writing Workshop in Tuscany, Italy. Best self-gift ever! It jump-started my effort to write a novel, and now Wendy Matthews is a writer, too!
CHOICES is my debut novel. It took me seven years to write, but it’s now in great shape, just looking for the right agent to help me bring it to the world…all 96,000 words, which is about 300+ pages. CHOICES is a three-generation family saga beginning in the 1930s, following a character, Tad, who hops a train from Connecticut to California to start a new life. Spurred to find work so he can help support his family, he succeeds and builds a life and career in California. The two generations that follow Tad show how choices in one generation affect the next. Some choices are good, others not so much. This is a story about families dealing with death, hard decisions, love, grief, and individuals finding their own way in life. I’m excited to find the agent who can take this work to its next level and join my journey.

One of my short stories, "The Thing About Lying," appeared in Traversing Life, an anthology from the San Diego Writers and Editors Guild.

I’m currently working on my first novel. I also have a non-fiction book out called Tweeners, a series of interviews with people navigating the “in-betweens” of life. My interviews centered on people in their midlife who were forced to find new employment due to layoffs or other reasons, and how they successfully migrated to new, and actually more fulfilling, positions.
